EDTA helps to prevent excessive Free Radicals Activity
Monitor your need for Antioxidants
Ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid, or EDTA, is a a weak synthetic amino acid. It has frequently been compared to a "Roto-Rooter®; in the
cardiovascular system, because it removes plaque and returns the arterial system to a smooth, healthy, pre-atherosclerotic state.
The majority of lipid peroxidation activity involves the presence of metal ions such as iron, copper or calcium. Research over the past 30
years has confirmed the benefits of EDTA. In conjunction with antioxidant nutrients EDTA helps to prevent excessive free radical activity and
assists in reinforcing the stability of cell membranes in the following manner:
- blocks calcium absorption, repairs damaged muscles and improves cell energy production
- reduces blood stickiness or clotting (“thick blood”)
- normalizes abnormal cholesterol and HDL levels
- removes calcium from plaque
- lowers the risk of heart disease
EDTA is a novel molecule for chelating metal ions. It is a polyprotic acid containing four carboxylic acid groups and two amine groups with lone
pair electrons. The unusual property of EDTA is its ability to chelate metal ions in 1:1 metal-to-EDTA complexes. The fully deprotonated form of
EDTA binds to metal ions. Its strong chelating ability for most metal ions makes it useful, for example, in the food industry as a chelating agent
removing the metallic taste such as metal contaminants added during food processing.
EDTA chelation is a therapy by which repeated administration of a weak synthetic amino acid. EDTA latches onto lead and other metals to form a compound
that can be excreted in the urine. The process generally takes between 1 and 3 hours. Other heavy metal toxicities treated with EDTA chelation include
mercury, arsenic, aluminium, chromium, cobalt, manganese, nickel, selenium, zinc, tin and thallium.
Studies have shown that as people age they continuously accumulate toxic metals such as lead, mercury, aluminium, iron, cadmium and arsenic amongst others.
The accrual of these toxins causes excessive free radical activity as explained above and an increased risk for various diseases especially heart diseases.
EDTA removes toxic metals from the blood.
EDTA also makes stronger bones and reduces cholesterol by improving calcium and cholesterol metabolism. EDTA can help lower cholesterol the principal component
of atherosclerotic plaque according to Dr Garry Gordon, the pioneer of oral EDTA chelation.
