Toxicity
Symptoms of zinc toxicity can occur if more than 2 gm of zinc are ingested. Zinc levels in excess of
500 ppm may cause clinical signs of toxicity. However, Zinc deficiency can cause health problems too ,
such as, skin lesions, Normal zinc intake is around 100 - 215 milligrams per kilogram in weight.
Toxicity Symptoms
Too much zinc causes stomach cramps, skin irritations, vomiting, nausea and anemia. Very high levels
of zinc can damage the pancreas and interfere with protein metabolism. It can cause arterioscleriosis.
Acute exposure to zinc chloride can cause respiratory disorders. Zinc poisoning can lead liver and
kidney failures as well as anemia. Zinc can be a danger to the unborn or new born children. They
can be exposed to zinc contamination through the mother.
Toxicity Limits
A reading of zinc in urine of between 0.25 - 2.0 ppm is considered normal.
